Small Club of The Year 2011 & 2013
The story behind the Bass brothers’ entry into the adult nightclub industry reads a bit like the plot to a Quentin Tarantino movie. Each character’s storyline somehow becomes intertwined with the other characters, eventually leading all of them to the same place—in this case, to the Delilah’s
adult club locations in New Jersey.
Born in Queens and raised in Staten Island, New York, the Bass brothers initially took very divergent career paths. Jordan started working as a DJ when he was only 14, yet quickly became one of the most well known “house” DJs in the entire area—a “local legend,” says Charles of his younger brother, noting that he spun at such NYC hotspots as The Haunted, The Limelight and Webster Hall. His reputation helped lead to an opportunity with the Lipsticks club on Staten Island, his first adult club gig.
“The DJ booth was behind the bar, ‘clubhouse’ style; you had to climb up a ladder and open the latch to get into the booth,” Jordan recalls. “So you were literally stuck there from 5 pm to 4 am, and that’s how I learned to be an adult club DJ and emcee.” Jordan’s success at Lipsticks led to an even better job at Delilah’s in South Amboy, NJ, where he went on to establish the club’s first dayshift in 1997. He also worked as a bartender at area nightclubs, and his study of martial arts helped him to assist with club security.
